Make the most of your Facebook Timeline

Posted by    |   August 20th, 2012   |   No responses

By now, most of us are familiar with Facebook Timeline, but we may not be maximizing its potential.  Here are some tips to make sure you're getting the most out of this new layout for your company and product Facebook pages. The basics:
  • Your cover photo should be 851x315 pixels and less than 100 KB. Be sure to match your corporate branding.
  • Your profile photo should be 180x180 pixels. A great place for your logo.
  • Your cover photo CANNOT include a call to action or any contact information. This information should go in your profile information.
Timeline has features that allow you to keep the important information front and center for your fans:
  • A “pinned post” keeps a post at the top of your page for 1 week even if you add additional posts.

  • To highlight a photo, link or status, click the star icon on the post. This will make the post be full page width.

  • Customize and arrange the apps under your cover photo. This is a great place for a call to action.

  • Use the Milestones feature to mark key moments for your brand. Simply select Event, Milestone in the New Post balloon.

  • Use Facebook Insights to see which posts are getting traction with your fans. (You have to have at least 30 “Likes” to use this feature.)

So proud of our client Olympians

Posted by    |   July 27th, 2012   |   No responses

We at Insight Designs love the Olympics. Who doesn't? But we're particularly excited for the 2012 Olympics. With more than a dozen clients competing, we feel like we have a little skin in the game. American cyclist, Boulder native and Insight Designs client Taylor Phinney is going for Gold in the Men's Road Race on Saturday and again in the Men's Individual Time Trial on Wednesday. Team Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda has a slew of team members competing for various countries in the cycling events as well. Among them, David Millar will be on Great Britain's team of 5 in the Men's Road Race. Boulder Wave, a Boulder company that trains, manages and represents elite runners from around the world, has at least 9 runners competing in these Olympic Games. In the Women's Marathon on Sunday, watch for Constantina Dita (reigning Olympic champion from Romania); Lidia Simon (2000 Olympic silver medalist from Romania and the first woman in Olympic history to race five Olympic marathons); Edna Kiplagat (reigning World Champion from Kenya); Rene Kalmer (South Africa); Irvette van Blerk (South Africa); Diane Nukuri Johnson (Burundi); and Yoshimi Ozaki (Japan). Lee Merrien (UK) will run in Sunday's Men's Marathon. And Kayoko Fukushi (Japan) will compete in both the Women's 5000m and 10,000m. We also just launched a site this week for Make A Hero, a non-profit that aims to improve the lives of people with disabilities by helping them get involved in sports. Make A Hero will be featured in commercials throughout the Olympics. Keep an eye out for their commercial on NBC between 6 and 10 pm MST Sunday.

Courage, here we come; office closed Monday, July 23

Posted by    |   July 20th, 2012   |   No responses

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our Courage Classic ride this weekend! As of 2:50 pm Friday, we've raised $46,932 for Children's Hospital Colorado. We are overwhelmed by your generosity for this very worthy cause. We're still hoping to get to $50,000, so feel free to donate if you haven't already: The entire staff of Insight Designs will be taking part in the 155-mile, 3-day ride that starts tomorrow in the Colorado mountains. That means our office will be closed on Monday, July 23. We'll be back at our desks on Tuesday - exhausted and sore, but ready to dive into work. If you need immediate assistance on Monday, please call 720-244-5360.

Thanks for making us fork over $10K for kids with cancer!

Posted by    |   June 1st, 2012   |   No responses

Thanks to all of you who've contributed to our Courage Classic fundraising effort. Our team - A Cure Insight - reached a major milestone this week. We hit the $10,000 mark, which triggered a $10,000 matching donation from Insight Designs. We're so thrilled to be supporting Children's Hospital Colorado. And we're touched by the number of friends, clients and colleagues who are joining us in this effort. Our goal is to raise $50,000, the minimum required to be able to earmark the funding for a particular cause. We'd like our money to go to the oncology department, where my son Laird was treated for cancer last year. We're 41% of the way there with a total of $20,276 in donations. And once we hit $30,000, it will trigger another $10,000 match from my family. So if you haven't already donated, please consider doing so. Help us fund research to cure all kids with cancer! To give, go to: - and click on any rider's name. Thanks so much!

Check out this super fab new app that ID designed!

Posted by    |   May 17th, 2012   |   No responses

So excited about the launch of The HUNT New York City! It's a stylish travel guide that tells a curated story about the most interesting and unique independent eating and shopping establishments in New York City. It takes you on a vibrant, visual journey through NYC's neighborhoods and helps you discover the local gems. We at Insight had the pleasure of designing this gorgeous app. We worked with Sue, Sam and the gang at TravelShark to create wireframes and define functionality. Our talented Ellie Childs created the sophisticated, simple, beautiful design. Then the folks at TS had their development crew make the app a reality. Great teamwork and a wonderful end result. Go ahead and download it. Just $1.99. Whether you live in NYC or are just visiting, you don't want to miss this. Be tempted.
