Chasing Ice original song nominated for Oscar

Posted by    |   January 16th, 2013   |   No responses

We at Insight Designs were quite bummed that Chasing Ice - an amazing documentary film that includes hauntingly beautiful videos of vanishing mountains of ice - didn't make the final cut for an Oscar nominee for Documentary Feature. But we are thrilled that the film, which YOU SHOULD SEE IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, is still in the Oscar mix. It's an Academy Award Nominee for Best Original Song. Click here to listen to "Before My Time" by J. Ralph featuring the unique voice of Scarlett Johansson and the gorgeous violin of Joshua Bell. Chasing Ice is still playing nationwide. Click here for a complete list of theaters. Oh, and by the way, we made the Chasing Ice website. Check it out, too. :)

And the winners are…

I swear, the Insight Designs holiday party just keeps getting better every year. We hosted our 13th annual feat earlier this month at our Boulder offices with the lights of Pearl Street twinkling through the windows. About 140 guests joined us for fabulous food (the crab cakes were to die for), lively libations, silly hats and all. You can see some of the fun here. Each year, we love taking the opportunity to promote the products and services of our awesome clients in a prize giveaway. This year, instead of interrupting the party buzz to award prizes, we did the drawing afterward.  And the 2012 winners are (drum roll please):
A Grammy Nominee in our midst

So excited to share the news that one of Insight Designs' clients - JumpinJazz Kids - has been nominated for a Grammy! JumpinJazz Kids is a unique line of children's music that combines narrative storytelling with fun, pop-influenced jazz songs performed by world-renowned jazz artists, a jazz quintet and a full symphony orchestra. The stories follow the imaginative adventures of 7-year-old Claire and her stuffed animal friends. "A Swinging Jungle Tale," the first title in the JumpinJazz series, has been selected as one of 5 nominees -- out of 117 entrants -- in the Best Children's Album Category for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Keep your eye on CBS at 8 pm on Sunday, Feb. 10, to see if our friends take home the coveted statue. And in the meantime, feel free to check out the JumpinJazz Kids website, where you can learn more about Claire, listen to the music featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Al Jarreau and Hubert Laws, and of course buy a CD.

Kudos to our friends at for being a Silver Winner in the 7th Annual W3 Awards. The awards, judged and sanctioned by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, honor outstanding work for web and mobile. Insight Designs started working with ThisLife founders Matt and Andrea Johnson in February 2010 to create their cloud-based service that organizes and archives users' photos and videos. Insight partner Nico Toutenhoofd led a crew of Insight programmers to develop ThisLife's API cloud infrastructure, including everything from video processing and face recognition to social media integration and automatic duplicate photo detection. The API supports an HTML5 browser client, a Flash browser client, a native iPhone app, a Mac desktop app and a Windows desktop app. If you're looking for the best home for all of your photos and videos, ThisLife is it.  It's currently in beta and is an invitation-only service, but you can simply request an invite to see what all the buzz is about. Also, check out this glowing piece from the Wall Street Journal - "A Hangout for All Your Social-Network Photos".

Don’t miss “Chasing Ice” from the producer of Academy-Award winning “The Cove”

Sometimes we get to work on something uber cool. This is one of those times. Last week, we launched a new website for Chasing Ice, an award-winning documentary film that tells the story of National Geographic photographer James Balog's mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of the Earth's changing climate. Balog and a band of young adventurers deployed revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world's disappearing glaciers. The film -- filled with hauntingly beautiful videos that compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they vanish at a breathtaking rate -- has won some of the most impressive awards in the movie business, including the Sundance Film Festival's Excellence in Cinematography Award. The trailer was just released yesterday. Watch it here. And be sure to see Chasing Ice on the big screen if you can. It premieres in a dozen cities in November with more showings to come. See the schedule here.
